At the Park

The 2010 Family 4th at Lake Union, produced for over 20 years by One Reel and, this year, proudly supported entirely through the generosity of nearly 300 local businesses and individuals, has truly cemented its standing as a cherished Northwest family tradition. The remarkable grassroots campaign, initiated by restaurateur and One Reel Board Member Tom Douglas, led by 97.3 KIRO radio host Dave Ross and completed in just under 24 hours, demonstrates Seattle’s commitment to this event and unbreakable community spirit. Thank you! We are so very grateful to each and every donor for their unwavering support of this free day of family fun, civic pride and patriotism. Please take a moment to view a letter of thanks, Mayor McGinn’s proclamation, and a complete list of donors.

The extraordinary circumstances of this year’s event are reflected in the 2010 official tagline, “A Celebration For The People, By The People,” and are beautifully captured in the original artwork created for a commemorative poster by acclaimed Northwest artist, Carl Smool. Known for working in every artistic medium except glass, for this piece, Smool returned to his graphic design roots. Working for over 20 hours, often only for a few hours at a time due to carpel tunnel in his hands, Smool etched into scratchboard a composite image of the event taken from previous Family 4th event photos. The result pays homage to the circumstances surrounding this year’s Family 4th and delightfully encapsulates the spirit of the community event.

The Family 4th kicks off at noon on Sunday, July 4 with family activities, entertainment, and food vendors throughout Gas Works Park. The evening’s awe-inspiring fireworks display begins at approximately 10 PM.

Please read the following information about joining us at Gas Works Park. We want everyone to have the best holiday possible and the following information should help ensure this happens. As with any outing, please make sure to go over basic safety rules with children before arriving at the event. Remind children to stay within your sight at all times. Also, point out the Information Booth location and event staff members to children so they know who to ask for help if they should become separated from you.
